Our latest Solar PV & Battery storage design & installation carried out in Victoria Park, Bristol.
Back Story: Initial Client Enquiries into a Solar PV & Battery Storage Installation
After enquiring with the large energy companies who provide their own solar PV install service our client was disheartened to find that all were unable to provide an in person site visit & they all only offered either one or a limited type of solar panel & inverter.
At Gecko Solar we pride ourselves on our bespoke design service, we carry out a thorough on-site inspection so that there are no hidden costs, with measurements to roof supports, shading and sun angles all taken into account on the day of the inspection. We then offer the full range of manufacturers products when it comes to choosing solar panels/inverters and battery storage to provide the optimum solution to the client factoring in their budget whilst providing the maximum system efficiency.
We were delighted that our client chose to use our services based on our communication, thorough on-site assessment and detailed design & quotation.
Design & Installation
A retrofit to an Edwardian property that fronts onto Victoria Park with a dual pitch roof & no significant shading. The final design we opted for was a South-East / North-West system, providing generation throughout the entirety of the day & maximising the roof space potential on both pitches. Using Eurener's latest Nexa 500W bi-facial panels the system is rated at 6kWp. The client opted for our option of a Myenergi 5kW Libbi inverter with 15kWh battery storage & the potential to add a further 5kWh. Utilising the 15kWh capacity allows the client to charge up on cheap overnight tariffs & sell to the grid at peak times when electricity companies pay the client a premium to export, essentially profiting through cycling the battery. During Summer months the solar panels will keep the battery topped up with no need to grid charge.
The challenge with this installation was the cable run with the inverter/batteries positioned within a courtyard garden at the rear of the house the cable run to the panels was approximately 40m per string. With a flat roofed extension which we were unable to fix to we opted for a small ballasted cable tray system to neatly run the cables across the extension roof. Using PV Ultra multicore cables to minimise the number of separate cables and give more protection to the DC conductors we then ran this up the gable end of the house and fixed underneath the black soffit boards which seamlessly integrated and is hardly noticeable from ground level, maintaing the aesthetic of the house.
Commissioning
Once the panels & battery were installed & commissioned we added the Bird Blocker protection to avoid any unwanted pigeons nesting underneath the panels. We helped the client set up the Myenergi app immediately & he was instantly able to see the amount of electricity generation from the panels, how much electricity the house was using & how much electricity was charging up the battery. We look forward to adding a further 5kWh storage further down the line, but for now we leave another happy customer to receive clean, green energy & enjoy their new Solar PV monitoring obsession!
